Abler omeprazole "blue pop rocks"

Howdy! Skip down to the 3rd paragraph for my question, if you're short on time!

Fortune was diagnosed with ulcers a little over a month ago. He's been on ranitidine since then. We have also changed his feed from a sweet feed to TC Low Starch, plus he gets soaked alfalfa cubes 20 min before every meal and he gets 24/7 hay. He's been on Exceed 6-way for almost a month.

He is ribby, his coat is dull, and - while the ulcery symptoms are gone with the ranitidine - he obviously isn't 100% yet. I was considering treating with Gastrogard. The only issue with that is the price; I have quite limited funds right now. I've been thinking about it and snooping around, and I found the Abler website....

Now, my question: Will Abler's blue pop rocks really heal gastric ulcers? Ranitidine isn't cutting it for my guy, and I really want to see him get back to his old shiny, plump self. If Gastrogard is my only real option, I'll make it work. But it would be considerably easier to pay for those little blue rocks, even if I had to have him on it for two, or even three months.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the lengthy post! :)

I don't have any experiences with the product, but I remember doing a section on Omeprazole paste use in racehorses last year in an assignment. The paste seems to work pretty well in reducing/preventing ulcers ( An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie ), but I don't know how well that transfers across to the "pop rock" form.

Honestly, I would just go for it. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, and at least you've given it a go, and can then start thinking about the more pricey treatments.

Were you dosing the ranitidine 3x/day? I've had my horse on it for about 3 weeks now and I am going to drop him down to 2x/day to see how he does.

Giving tums before riding may help too though they only last an hour or so. You can dose again as needed for longer rides.

Trinity - Thank you, that's good to hear.

BeachinIt - After hearing the price of the Gastrogard treatment, finding this alternative was pretty exciting lol.

IndiesaurusRex - Yeah, that's what I think I'll do. If anything, it should at least help him more than the ranitidine is (that's what I'm hoping anyway, as it has omeprazole in it.)

DancingArabian - Yes, he has been getting the ranitidine 3x a day. I've seen no changes besides him being a bit less grumpy. In fact, I think he might still be losing some weight, but I may just be paranoid at this point!

Omeprazole worked on my ulcers. I don't have any experience using it on a horse, but I can say that there is some merit to it because it healed mine up pretty quickly!

Ranitidine didn't do squat for me. I still use it if I am going to have a spicy or acidic meal, on top of the omeprazole. But I think you might have better results with the Omeprazole. Judging from my personal experience anyway!
